Title: c15 clutch retaining nut
Post by: RobinG on 15 Dec, 2018, 16:44
Hi, just fitting new clutch parts to a C15. Does anyone out there know the correct torque figure for the central clutch basket retaining nut?  I've looked around and seen people quoting as high as 60ft lb and as low as 30.   Mine was pretty tight when I took it off, but I don't want to break anything, so any advice gratefully received!  Rgds, Robin

Sorry I don't have a figure; I've never used a torque wrench when fitting a clutch basket. I have had a look in the workshop manual and no figure is stated. Is there not a locknut to secure the nut when tightened? I would think 30 - 40 ft lb would be fine! Never had a problem with mine.

The C15 clutch is very similar to the B25 and the retaining nut is the same 1/2 x 20tpi cycle thread part for both.

The B25 torque figure was given as 55-60 ft/lbs which would be good for the C15. There is an earlier service sheet which advises that overtightening the nut can cause clutch drag.

I always use thread locker on clutch nuts.

Thanks both for the advice/ info. Much appreciated.

No locknut, but there is Tab washer. I will take it up to 55 in stages.

Cheers, Robin
