Title: Air Filter Vs Open Bell Mouth.
Post by: A10 JWO on 14 Nov, 2018, 17:13
How much difference would an open carb make in respect to setting the air screw and tick over on A65 Single carb. Thanks.

Hi,
The mix will be leaner, hence screw in pilot screw.

You may also need to raise the needle, fit a larger needle jet, smaller cutaway and larger jet.

Best wishes...

Hi suggest this.
Take the plugs out and clean them then take the bike for a good run with the filter on.
Take the plugs out and clean them again then take it for the same run with the "bell mouth" on
Again take the plugs out and check if there is a difference in the deposits. It will give you a good idea what if any changes you may need to make. My GUESS would be very little change will be necessary?????????????

Generally speaking, you should up the main jet a size or two. Unlikely to need much else.

Hi again

I suppose that you could always "go into the books" and check against bikes built with and without air filters For instance an A7 with a bell against an A50 with a filter and see what the differences are. I know that will only give you a very general idea but it might help

I feel that it is running better with the two brand new air filters as BSA designed it for. Thank you.
