Title: New member needing info on registering a bike
Post by: andybyard on 21 Oct, 2018, 07:33
Hi I'm Andy and I'm looking at getting my first classic bike, I've seen a D1 locally but it's not registered and has no v5, so my question is how much will this cost me to get a registration and full v5?
The bike in question has a frame number and an engine number present, just not up and running but the bike is mainly all there rolling.
With the frame and engine numbers present is it just a case of sending the relevant info to DVLA and they will send me a logbook or am I best buying a similar bike but one which has already been registered?
Thanks in advance
Andy

Hi,
    First registration fee is £55.

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/new-registrations-fee

You'll also need a dating certificate and vehicle report from BSAOC, £5 for members £15 otherwise.

Best wishes...

As well as the above forms don't be surprised if they ask for a NOVA certificate. Costs nothing and done on line. Seems that some in Swansea want this as it must be a box for them to tick. Done 3 lately and had all the hoops to jump through. One had to have a NOVA and then a man from the Ministry inspect the bike. Yes It's a nuisance and the NOVA not needed on a UK bike but to try to argue is wasting your time . Just do the on line form and have another cuppa to cool down . Expect it to take 6 to 8 weeks and if oyu are lucky 2 weeks max.     Griff
