Title: ethanol again
Post by: mashermick on 18 Oct, 2018, 17:25
hello all, further to my earlier question ,in my super rocket is it advisable to use tank liner as well as the additives as the tank is in good condition, having been re-chromed and painted .

Ethanol is a form of alchohol and as such is a searching agent, and it WILL find any pinholes so having presumably spent several hundreds of pounds (or more) restoring your tank, to me it makes sense spending another £20-30 to ensure that it doesn't leak and ruin the paint job. Also the tank surface to be lined has to be close to clinically clean which yours should be as part of the plating/flushing process. Otherwise it's copious amounts of warm soapy water and clean flushing water to remove any petroleum deposits. I used Petseal on my Ducati tank to seal leaking spotwelds several years ago and it's still good. There are of course several other products on the market, personal choice at the end of the day. Don' forget to blank off any threads though (petcocks etc).

Lots of opinions regarding tank liners out there. Some good, some not. Search carefully before deciding which (if any) to go for.
