Title: Jerky transmission
Post by: berniej on 01 Oct, 2018, 09:37
My D7 is becoming increasingly jerky, with a kind of snatching in the transmission, except when pulling hard or slowing with closed throttle.

I suspect that the primary chain is stretched and that the jerky transmission is now making it worse.

Does this sound like a likely cause? If so has anyone had any success with fitting an after-market chain tensioner? I've seen a few around and wonder if this would be a good investment?

Thanks,
Bernie

Certainly a worn or stretched primary chain can cause some snatching. I fitted a new chain and sprockets on mine and the chain was not as tight as I thought it should have been. Also check the play in the final drive chain - if that is too loose it will give a more jerky transmission.
