Title: C15 help needed
Post by: batpooh on 30 Jul, 2018, 15:58
Hi All
I'm new to this site and sort of new to this bike.
the story is i bought this as a basket case for my dad when he retired....that was 25 years ago!
He started restoring it with great gusto but when things got beyond paint & engine building he lost interest and it has sat in his slightly damp garage until a couple of months ago when I bit the bullet and have taken her under my very inexperienced wing. (I have never restored anything in my life but this is a good start i feel)

So i have bolted as much of it together as i can in an attempt to see what's missing/knackered/wrong and it appears fairly complete  ;D but as always i have a couple of queries.
1. the center stand doesn't seem quite right and seems to clash with the spring and overshoot so the back wheel sits on the deck and it wont retract fully so it hangs down, i'm fairly sure its the right part but may be wrong but the spring i'm sure is wrong see the below pics
2. I've just bought a new wiring loom but have no idea of the correct routing etc has any one got one of these & can help me with a few photos etc

There will probably be more questions shortly and any restoration info will be gratefully received.

Thanks in Advance Stuart

P.s. Is there anyone near Aylesbury with a complete one of these i would very much like to eyeball it  :o

PPS i'm having trouble posting pics the site keeps rejecting me mid upload :'( any suggestions? and yes they are all within the maximum limits :-X

I think the C bracket that the spring fits onto at the top is the wrong way round , i.e. it should be facing the front , and the spring should then be further forward at the top .

Or the C bracket could just be bolted on to low.

It seems to me that the lugs on the top of the stand are worn . I had the same problem until i purchased a new stand . now the rear wheel is about  3 inches from the ground .there may also be wear on the pivot pins

The " cut out" in the C faces to the rear of the bike ( I think yours appears correct).

The pins do wear as do the holes the pins go through in the stand - they go oval.
New stands are expensive if you can find one - second hand ones may also be worn!

Options:

Get a new stand
Find a better second hand stand and change the pivot pins
weld up the pads where the stand hits the frame. I did this on my B40 as the stand hit the silencer when taking it of the centre stand.
One other problem I had was that on the B40, not sure about C15, the early shocks were slightly shorter than the later ones, so effectively making the wheel sit lower ( the centre stand not long enough). Early shocks are very hard to find.

I would be tempted to get some new pins and put some weld on the pads and grind the weld flat so the stand makes even contact with the frame. A bit of trial and error but not difficult if you've got access to welding gear.

Sorry Everyone who responded been tied up with stuff not BSA related unfortunately  >:(

have checked the holes in the stand and frame and the pins are brand new no obvious wear any where?

Ducatti 2242 any chance of a photo from the same angle i took mine :-)

Also if thats yours any chance you could have a quick look at wiring loom routes

Cheers gents
