Title: Electrical / 1969 Starfire
Post by: Bsa-starfire on 27 Jul, 2018, 05:07
Hello BSA friends. I'm in need of some help. Every time I turn the lights on to my 1969 Starfire my battery goes completely dead. Any thoughts on this? Hope to get the bike back on the road ASAP.
The tail light works fine but the turning on the headlight is what makes the battery die.

I'm sure the battery is good. I just bought it. And it did the same thing with the battery before.

Could be a fault in the bulb holder, poss' corroded. Take the bulb out and switch headlight on, carefully examine the holder and the base of the bulb. Headlight live could be going straight to earth. Check the headlight feed back to switch, again check for damp and corrosion. Let us know.

You were right. Corrosion around tbd bulb holder and when I took out the bulb and switched the lights on the battery did not die. I'll clean off the corrosion but should I just get new light bulb holder? Anny advice on next steps? Thanks you!

I would get in there with emery paper, not wire wool. Have a good scratch around and check any soldered joints. A new or good second hand bulb holder should be cheap as chips. Throw the old bulb away. 5 min job  ;D
