What have I done wrong now. Took carb apart to clean it. When I put the float needle in and then the float and spacer there's no movement in the float as the needle is holding float down. There was movement in the float before I took it apart the float is in the right way round.?
The floats are marked "front", except the earlier brass ones.
"Front" should be visible when you put it in.
If it is a brass one just look for a mark where the needle bottom has been.
When you put the needle in push it into the needle seating then put the float in.
You have probaby jammed it.
If it is an old series monobloc dont use a fibre washer between seat and carb body or it will flood.
Thanks Before taking it apart the float moved up and down 10 /15 ish. I noted which way the brass float came out. With the needle in I can't get the float back in the right way round . You can see on the float the mark the needle has made so that's definitely the right wat round. The needle slides freely,it's like it's to long or not going all the way up. When I push it up manually it does close the inlet. Should the needle housing be screwed all the way down although I hadn't touched that. Thanks
The needle seat should be screwed in fully - but as it appears to be an old monobloc then dont use the fibre washer between it and the carb body (only for the "new" series with thin o ring)
The brass float goes with the sloping part under the needle.
If it still has a fully nylon needle then it would be useful to replace it with a brass or light alloy one with viton tip for better seal.
Suggest remove the needle seat and carefully examin it and needle for damage or wear.
Thanks there is no washer so fully screwed in. It's quite clear which way the float goes in as you can see where the needle point hits the float. With needle pushed as far up as to stop I still can't get the float past the bottom of the needle it's like it won't push up enough. It is the nylon needle but was all working ok when I took it apart.
