So, I have a new front tyre for the B40WD, and haven't done a tyre change for a while, nor one with rim locks...........
Any advice, or recommendations before I go mad with the tyre levers?
The original 40 plus year old Dunlop isn't worn, but the cracks round the blocks are worrying me!
Make sure you've got a good set of tyre levers and, if the rims are painted, a set of rim protectors. Dealing with the rim lock is straightforward but you have to make sure it's pushed as far into the wheel as possible to keep it out of the way of the tyre bead when removing or installing the tyre. I tend to leave off the rim locks from my ex-army motorcycles unless they are going to be run them at low pressure off-road. Also, it can be difficult to balance the wheel afterwards for road use unless you already have the heavy balance weights required. If you are not familiar with removing and replacing motorcycle tyres, there are plenty of videos on the web to show you how.
Cheers for that Sir, I've done a fair few in the past, but not in the last few years.
It'll be the weekend before I look at it, interestingly, the current rim and tyre combo are perfectly balanced, with no weights at all!
That's possible if you've got two rim locks fitted?
Indeed, 2 fitted
That is complete overkill - the B40WD only had 1 rim lock fitted originally. You will definitely have fun fitting the front tyre ;)
We'll see, update when swearing at tyre levers has commenced!!
