Hello, I have a 64 bsa c15 Starfire Scrambler frame #C15C-1189, eng.#C15S-4497. My question pertains to the Lucas Distributor, can someone tell me the correct degree advance plate, springs and weights for this unit? After much hard work still cannot get this bike to run! Most everything else has been gone through. thanks Robert
The auto advance should have a 15 deg range which should be indicated on the underside of the unit. The fully advanced timing should be set at 33.5 deg BTDC which means the fully retarded setting should be about 3.5 deg BTDC. Presumably you are getting a good spark?
There was a change in the distributor in 1963. From 15 degree to 10 degree.
But in the past 54 years it could well have been changed.
The service sheet gives some detail, though I would not use the retarded timing figure they give.
It has, helpfully, had the Lucas part numbers added.
Time it at the fully advanced position.
