Title: Cast iron head crack repair?
Post by: frogeye on 25 May, 2018, 13:24
Have a small crack in the cast iron head of my b31, near the pushrod access cover. Does this old iron lend itself to weld repairs?

Simple answer is not normally. You might make the situation worst trying to weld it. Do you have a photo of the crack?

Hi,
Depends where the crack is and if its load or pressure bearing.

Use crack detection fluid and developer to find the extent of the crack. If possible drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it migrating then fill the crack with braze.

Best wishes...
