Title: B40 fork seal holder string seal
Post by: Dabbist on 06 May, 2018, 10:06
Hi All,
While stripping my b40 fork sliders, I found there's a "seal" of twisted string around the bottom of the thread for the oil seal holder. I haven't seen any anywhere and can't quite figure out how to twist it in place tightly enough. Has anybody out there made them (if so, how)  or would a big "O" ring do the job?

Grease the string first and then wrap tightly clockwise it at lease once around the bottom of the thread. When you tighten up the seal holder, hold on to the end of the string to keep the coil of string in place as you tighten up the holder. That said, I'm not convinced it's necessary as I find it difficult to imagine oil seeping all the way down the thread and then out the bottom.

just use PTFE tape on the thread

PTFE tape is good - you can also twist it into a cord and use it in the recess designed for the string.

Thanks gents. Looks like ptfe is the easier option.
