Title: 1930 BSA B30-3 Side Valve
Post by: Magicflem on 04 Apr, 2018, 07:09
Hello all, my name is Kim and I am new to this site.
I own a few BSAs and my latest project is a 1930 model.
I am in the process of restoring a 1930 BSA B30-3 250 side valve.
My question is - will cams and spindles from a 1932 350cc fit my engine?
Also, do either engines run a spindle support plate (similar to a Gold Star) or do the simple find their support in the outer timing case bushing?
Kind Regards,
Kim - Sydney Australia

Part answer based on 1930 and 1932 parts books.

Presuming the 1932 model is the L32-2 side valve.

Inlet cams - 1930 250= part 27 1470,  1932 350= part27 1473. Different

Exhaust cams - 1930 250= part 27 1471,  1932 350=part 27 1471.  Same.

Spindle  both models= part 27 1480

Thanks JulianS,
Yes, the 350 is a Z2 L32-2 side valve.
I may have to run the 350 as my engine until I find the correct B30-3 inlet cam (then swap engines)...
Still need info on spindle support plate???
Thanks again.

If they are similar to the same era Slopers, then there is no support plate.  On my S28, the cam spindles are fixed into a D shaped hole in the case and the other end is supported in steel bushes in the timing cover. The engine main shaft is supported in a ollite bush through which oil is pumped to the bjg end.
Cheers,
