I have just had the front wheel off my bike and when Ive gone to put it back on one leg seems longer than the other. Anyone had this problem? I wanted to post some photos but can't.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to post photos taken on an iPhone onto this site?
Is it stuck? What happens if you give it a thump with a hide mallet?
Are the stanchions fully in the top yoke and the same amount?
I pulled the whole thing down until I could get the other side in. I should have tried hitting it with a rubber hammer but didn't. Hopefully all will be well.
Springs may be past it, have a look at how it sits on the road.

OK. So more likely a slightly tight fork bush. Should ease with use.
Seems fine when riding.
I'm assuming it is a pre OIF A65. As such, one of the fork legs is longer than the other but the spindle is parallel.
This is acheived by the machining on the bottom sliders being a few degrees not perpendicular to the fork leg. This was done from 1965 onwards, to align the wheels so the tyres were in line after they changed the back wheel arrangement and the rear brake was moved from the right hand side to the left, on the same side as the pedal.
The end caps are machined to suit and to ensure they are fitted to the correct slider, both the slider and end caps have a dot which must line up.
Hope this helps!!
I haven't seen any mention of different length fork legs in any of the manuals.
