Title: BSA A65FS, electrical issue.
Post by: oilleak69 on 24 Jul, 2026, 21:24
A65FS with battery bypass 2MC capacitor. No spark left cylinder. I replaced coils, alternator, 2MC capacitor and rectifier. Now when I kick it over I get spark at the handlebar while holding the spark plug wire. Any ideas where the problem may be. Thanks, John.

Does this run redundant sparks with both coils firing off a single trigger or one trigger for each coil/cylinder?
I would start swapping things side to side one at a time in the hope of finding the culprit.

as above, with swopping coils and wiring for testing.
also get hold of a 12 volt battery and disconnect capacitor until ignition sorted.

Thanks for the help. This bike has an early electronic ignition set-up with 2 wires, one going to each individual coil. I hope to get things sorted out. She's been running fine for 40yrs so can't really complain.

The 2MC capacitors have a life span.
It could be that failing.
As suggested ,use a battery to see if it runs better .
