I'm currently running in my A65. How many miles is advisable before changing the oil.
When I did it on both my T120 and A65, the oil was changed after 50 miles and again after 250 and 500 miles. Used 20w50 running in oil for the first 50. Rings seated in nicely on both and they go like stink now. Vary the rev range, and don't lug it.
Certainly by 200-250 as you want to get the initial wear metal out and check for anything that shouldn't be there.
Hi,
Hopefully you have fitted a filter on the oil return and you have a magnetic plug in the sump plate.
The magnet will attract any ferrous particles from the running in process. Initially there will be some and when rubbed between the finger and thumb it will feel a bit like graphite. As the process continues there will be less and less until there is non.
On several bikes and over many thousands of miles I have use a modern mineral oil as this has detergents that help to carry any contaminants to the filter rather than to accumulate in the sludge trap.
Dave.

Dave.I haven't fitted a filter just the finned sump plug. Any recommendations for filters and how to fit.
Thanks guys. Any recommendations for what filter to purchase and where and how to locate it would be welcome.
A common fitment is the aftermarket Norton Commando unit. I have one on my A10 and many years ago fitted something similar to my A65. The quality is not great, the metal is soft, but they work. On the A10 it is above / behind the gear box, on the A65 is was low behind the engine but that was an OIF bike so not the same as yours.
Do what most do, buy one, make a cuppa and keep holding it in places until you find one that you can mount and pipe to.
Hi,
I never thought to actually take a photo of the filter so this is best I have got. Some is bound to have a better one.
Dave.
Thanks again.
I bought this one...
Oil filter (https://ebay.io/m/we75tZ)
Haven't fitted it yet tho ...
Be very careful with the pipe fitting/clamping there are no barbs to stop the pipes slipping. I always use the ones from Andover Norton.
