Title: Boyer-Bransden Box positioning on B25
Post by: MadPete on 15 Jul, 2026, 13:55
Hello again

Now on to the B25 electrics and I have decided on the electronic ignition from Boyer Bransden. I have a new Lucas wiring harness and stuff.

- Do readers have any advice or information about where best to position the electronic control box for the ignition. The wires are not quite long enough to site it somewhere near the battery. SO I am wondering if the headstock reinforcing plate is an option. But then the wires to the rotor need to be lengthened. Or should I attempt to use/modify the old wires for teh contact breakers and coil in the wiring harness? Oh err. Time to ask what other BSA singles riders have done... :0)

- Obviously I will change the old selenium plate rectifier for a newer square "solid state" item. But should I get one of the newer combined rectifier & voltage regulator units? I think my Zener still works but wondered if other riders have any experience of fitting and running the combined unit. If fitted at least I know where it will go!

All comments welcomed. TIA. :0)

I don't think there is any real "maximum" for cable lengths - within reason of course. I'd try to find a space under the seat near the battery. I'd make new pickup cables and I'd throw away the horrible crimped conectors and fit proper ones - soldered in my case. Do make sure the pickup wires aren't too close to the plug lead as this can allegendly cause interference.

I'm very happy with solid state rectifier and zener diode but many people like the combined boxes. But not all have good reputations.....

I mounted my Pazon to the front edge of the horizontal frame brace under the seat, nestled between the oil tank and the toolbox. That was to a C25, but I think I'm right in saying the frames are the same?

Yes, I think the frames are the same - or very similar. My first idea was to look for somewhere in that area but the wires from the box to the coil were too short to comfortably do this. It is my preferred location though. The only other real option being the headstock reinforcing plates (or there about) but it is not an ideal solution.

It seems I must consider extending the wires - or making some short extension wires - to allow me to position the unit in the battery toolbox area. I just wanted to check with others in case there was some received wisdom about the best position.

Thanks for the tips @iansoady - the pick-up/plug lead tip is useful. Plus I agree - fit better connectors! God knows why they used the cheap option, other than it being cheap. The manufacturer didn't even use a "hex" crimper tool, just the standard two side crimp type. I suppose it is just possible that the simpler type was smaller over all, helping to fit into the the space behind the timing cover.

While on the subject is there any opinion about the relative performance of the Pazon vs Boyer ignition modules? I note the Pazon type come with MUCH longer leads...

Hi Pete,
In the toolbox on my Tr25w, you can't get much in it anyway.

Not sure of differences between B25 and my B50SS ... I tucked the BB box in the aluminum box - wire tied a bit of foam to keep it from banging around.

Off topic, but I bolted the Podtronics R/R to the underside of the battery tray.
