What is the forum's opinion on handlebar switch gear for a 1968 B25 starfire. Standard option seems to be the circular Wipac Ducon dip switch with horn push. This style is generally available but is usually the later "black plastic" body variety. Mr Ratio's excellent manual says the earlier zinc cast body is a better option as the plastic can break and the grub screw securing the body to the bars is prone to "not work" or to being over tightened and failing. Not sure zinc body versions can still be found...
The other option is to use the older style Lucas chromed button and switch combination.
Any options or experience as to which switch one is better or what problems to consider when choosing?
My 69 Starfire / Suzuki has Norton Commando type alloy switchgear. It may of course not be original but works well.
I have been using the same original Wipac made plastic bodied Tricon switch (dip horn stop) on my A10 for the past 25 plus years. So far no problems.
Thanks for these opinions guys, I appreciate your insights.
I did consider the later alloy switch gear but it seems somewhat "wide" and would require a relevant clutch lever fixing to operate, or so I suppose. But it seems by far the most "robust" option.
I am heartened to know the Ducon switch can last 25 years, meaning the grub screw problem is not that severe. So I am minded fit the Ducon rather than the earlier Miller/Lucas style metal switchgear.
I seem to remember that Rupert recommended putting an indent for the grub screw in the handlebar with a small drill. I followed that advice. Working fine for me so far.
