After the wheels and the tin work I am now considering the seat on my 1968 B25 Starfire. The one I have is showing its age and is JUST (very just) about usable although cosmetically a bit retarded. The rear bracket has been welded and glued on and the metal base itself is very rusty in places. I thought about renovation but feel I may be wasting my money.
As there are other BSA humpbacked seats fitted on different models, I was wondering if there is any interchangeability between the other BSA humpbacked seats and the authentic B25 seat. Has any of the membership tried?
Alternatively does anyone know where one can get a reasonable quality 1968 B25 seat? There are some very expensive NOS items about in the world but the more reasonably priced and local reproduction items are rarely in stock.
Maybe I should nail a plank on and use a cushion... wouldn't be the first time! :0)
I think I saw one on one of the BSA facebook pages. Hang on......
Ah, found it but it's in the USA and is quite pricey. https://www.facebook.com/groups/176982039427770/posts/2554409115018372
Yes there are a number of these seats located around the world. I have a friend in USA who showed me a brand new (old stock) seat still wrapped in brown paper. It was priced at $450. Then there's the tax and transport. After which the plank and cushion option can be seen in a different light. :0)
The main problem is that the metal base rusts to the point of disintegration and thus its not worth restoring. Shaped foam and covers are available if one can find a solid base. It's the bend up at the back of the seat base that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.
I am currently looking at non humpbacked TR250W seats. But they are also difficult to find in a good state - hence my question about what is the next nearest fit. I must go consult Mr Ratio's manual. Logically speaking if the frames and mounting points are similar then the seats must be too.
