Title: Monobloc Fuel Line Routing
Post by: aso215kd on 24 Apr, 2026, 22:44
Hi Folks,

I'm finishing up a fuel system re-fit on my '64 A65 (A-50 frame with fully enclosed side covers).  The goal was to re-equip it with a monobloc and the brass push/pull fuel valves.

The monobloc, complete with the original style tickler system and vertical union, is in place.

The brass push/pull fuel valves, (internal o-rings) are fitted, but I have yet to stop them leaking at the tank.  Many attempts with various washer combinations have failed.  I tried fitting Triumph fuel taps but they lower the routing of the fuel lines.

The original fuel lines are supposed to pass through a gap at the top of the full fitting side covers and descend to the carb union.  The vertical nature of the Triumph taps have my fuel lines fastening a full 2.5 inched lower that the original taps.  This forces me to route the fuel lines outside of the side covers (unsightly) to a gap where the covers meet at the bottom and then vertically 7.5 inches to loop over the carb to the carb union.

Any thoughts?

I know I could go to a concentric but the fuel taps and carb were the only none original items on the bike when I bought it a couple of years ago.

Cheers

OK, so the best fix is to use the push pull taps and stop them leaking at the tank.  One way is to clean the tank union surface, put an o ring on the tap thread and then fit a thick washer that is just bigger then the o ring.  You then tighten down on the washer and compress the o ring but not crush it.  It may take a few attempts to get the o ring and washer sizes right.
You can (I have) also use a lot of PTFE tape on the tap thread, this works but bits of PTFE tape have a way of ending up in the fuel lines.  The benefit of this way is you can ease the tap into the right angle, but use too much force and something will break.

See "A65 fuel line routing" December '25.

I think your best bet is, as limeyrob says, is to use the original, taps

Thanks folks, I emery clothed the tank outlet and use an o-ring, washer and fuel sealant.  After two days the leaks dried up and the internal valve o-ring mostly stopped dripping.
