Post by: Drumnagorrach on 21 Feb, 2026, 23:15
Hello folks just joined , looking for advice . Wonder how  the centre stand fits , does it fit to the lugs under the swinging arm . I can't get mine to move enough , no matter which way I fit it the stops on the casting hit  the frame .i tried to upload photos without success .
Would some kind person upload a photo of their centre stand please ?

So your '55 is a swinging arm model? Is your stand an original or repro?
The stand normally has a tube down the centre with a bolt through the tube.
The stand has stops that bear on the frame rail (that has a shaped strip of tube brazed to the rail).
My 55 has the original stand and my 57 has a repo that I had to rework quite a bit with new tube and reshaped stops to allow it to support the bike on the stand but also fold up high enough to be parallel with the frame (and ground) when not in use.
Sounds a bit like you have one that needs fettling. It is dark now but if you can wait until next weekend I can post pics of three GS centre stands in place!!!
