Title: Painting barrel
Post by: MITCHELL on 10 Feb, 2026, 11:40
Morning all, due to extensive building works the A65 rebuild went on hold and the machine and all bits and pieces went into storage but it's back now and so are all the questions.
I'm at a stage to put the cylinder on so first I thought I'd spray it black with heat proof paint. After buying said paint on Amazon and carefully following instructions by accident found that degraded or petrol quickly stripped the paint. Cleaned it all off went to automotive paint specialist bought some more paint followed instructions and sure enough petrol stripped it off again. Surely there must be a way of painting the barrel without petrol being a problem. Any suggestion appreciated. Cheers Dave.

Some of the high temp paints need to get hot and cure.  They stay sticky until the first good run.

Cheers Rob,the paint was,or appeared to be very dry instruction were 12-24 hours I have it a couple of days. Handling it was fine until a drop of petrol dropped on it and off it came no messing.

I use VHT ceramic paint, followed by the satin clear lacquer. I don't have an issue with it. However, I have not had the need to get petrol on the cylinders?!
