Its been 55 years since playing with A10 g/boxes, so need some advise please.
I recently bought another S/Rocket, but the kickstart looked to be positioned too far forward and locks in that position. To move the kickstart lever i have to put into gear and rock the rear wheel forewards whilst putting pressure on the lever to release it. If the outer cover is removed with both levers still attached, can i make any adjustments to the pawl to remedy the problem. Thanks in advance.
Has it got rear-sets? It may be an intentional mod to reposition the kick starter.
Service Sheet 311 has the instructions. Its says you can pull the cover off complete with the kickstart and gear lever.
It sounds as if the kick start quadrant you have is one for rearsets.
Thanks for the response guys. Rearsets are fitted, but i didn't know about a different quadrant and i'm not sure how that affects the kickstart locking up. What i really need to know is if the pawl/quadrant can be moved to allow the kickstart lever to move freely.
The kick start usually locks up because of wear on the quadrant. What happens I the first tooth on the quadrant rides up onto top of the tooth on the pinion. You can as a temporary repair take off the gearbox outer cover remove the quadrant and grind of the first tooth. You will see that BSA had already done this. If you replace the quadrant make sure that you get the right tooth form. Early ones had straight side to the teeth. Later ones had a curvature. You can't mix.
I've never had an A10 or B series that doesn't lock up, the trick is to jiggle the kick start to get it engaged before kicking. I've not tried taking a fine stone to the teeth to smooth the engagement.
