has anyone done this successfully? my 63 has a later QD wheel with the brake on the opposite side. It sort of works, but the brake pedal pivot is obviously different and fitted with a spacer which is not great, tad sloppy. It does function, and I do not think it will fall off but....
The eagle eyes will also note the footrest is just through-bolted onto a taper, no left hand bolt/nut etc. I need to sort this, or go back to the original wheel etc etc, but I do really like the QD type.
I think your also using a footrest off something like a C15, A65 ones are much chunkier around the tapered are.
Your lever is presently mounted to the hole which the brake light switch mounts to. If you have the early lever still and cross over shaft, you could utilise the crossover shaft to mount the lever off, do what you like on the other end to stop it falling off.
Or fit a set of rear sets. Though you'll need two brackets identical to the timing side one as they pick up the mounting from the backside of the front and rear footrest brackets.
I don't like the look of that. I'd either go rear-sets with the triangle plates or refit the correct wheel. Having had BSAs with both QD and full width hubs I have no preference, they both do the job.
thanks guys, more parts to buy! It has to be right though, I have big plans for 2026!
That early hub is the same as the later A10. Its a nice hub and I'm not sure why BSA replaced it with the earlier QD one. My A10 has the full width rear and its a decent design and still QD. You should find one OK.
