Title: B31 sidestand
Post by: DGBland on 20 Dec, 2025, 14:34
A lug on the sidestand snapped this morning on my B31. The welded lug on the frame is still OK. The only size I can see on line states a 7/8inch lug arrangement. But the frame is over an inch wide. 7/8 seems to be the only size I can find. Is this the correct size? Also are the clamp on side stands any good. I worry in case they slip around the frame under the weight of the bike. As you can imagine new BSA sidestands are extremely expensive

Do as I did on my B33. Buy a clamp on one and once you find the best lean position weld it to the frame. I did mine about 40 years ago with an arc welder. Still good.

Drill and tap the clamp-on job and fit a grub-screw if welding isn't possible.
They always slip round otherwise..
