Noticed that my HT brushes are getting a bit short on the A10. Had a look on line and there seem to be 3 options:
no - name aftermarket £4ish
Lucas UK made £7 ish
Lucas old stock over £30
The Lucas old stock look noticeably different to the other two with finer longer springs that look like the ones I have and are probably worth the extra. But being a cheap skate I've bought the £4 ones and I'll see if they fit the springs I have. The stiffer springs look like they could wear the slip ring.
What is other's experience?
There's been soft ones and hard ones on the market.
Too soft and they ground to nothing and coat the slip ring with carbon. Then you run out of sparks.
Too hard and they wear the slip ring.
Cheap brushes will either cost you on a Mag build or leave you broken down on the side of the road.
Contact Andrew Guttmann of Priory Magnetos, I think his number is in the Star Mag. He will sell you some brushes of the correct grade.

i ve used the pattern ones in green lucas boxes and they seem ok.
