Hi
I am Rebuilding My Gearbox B#1$ from 1953 (rigid)
My issue is that the disk between the output gear pinion and the Bearing has the Outer diameter a little offset from the rest of the disc. I am wondering how to mount it . With the "High " outer part of the disc towards the bearing towards the Gear pinion. I have tried to assemble it with a Bearing anf the primary gear when , and the disc oriented in both ways, and honestly I do not feel any difference?
Any info is welcome

Personally, I would fit the Oil Retaining Washer so that there is a small gap between the washer and the bearing outer. My reasoning is that this will allow a little oil into the bearing to lubricate it. If you fit it the other way round, it will rub on the stationary outer race as it turns.....others disagree, so it's your choice. I see there is another smaller washer fitted to the other side of the bearing. Earlier gearboxes used 2 of these Oil Retaining Washers, with no oil seal, but I suppose BSA deleted the outer one when they fitted an oil seal.
Of course, if you're using a sealed bearing,(highly recommended) the washer is not needed for oil sealing, but still important for mainshaft position and endfloat.
