Title: A65 Gear selection
Post by: Richard PS on 16 Oct, 2025, 18:37
Having trouble selecting gears on my 1971 OIF A65. I can get 1st and 2nd reliably but 3rd is unreliable and 4th very occasional.
Once in gear there is no jumping out but trying to get
4th for example, the gear lever lifts right up but nothing engages.
Would I be right in thinking that this is something to do with the outer part of the selector and the spindkes that engage in it? What is the cure?

Find the reason for the fault first
The poor spline fit can mean the lever moves on the spline.
The inner spring could be worn .
Too much endplay on the lay shaft.
I m no expert on a65 bikes . Attention to detail does pay off though.
