Title: Enfield Alternator in BSA C15
Post by: Barnsey on 14 Oct, 2025, 17:15
In his video, Hugh Ferrier bought an alternator stator intended for a Royal Enfield, fitted it in his C15 and got it working.  This is a tempting mod as the Enfield Stator is cheap, and my stator is falling apart.  But, has anyone else tried it before I splash the cash?  There is a bit of a wait too if it has to come from India, just to find that it is no good...  TIck Tock!

If it fits then there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

Hi,

Bear in mind that the RE assembly line etc. was taken to India there is alway a good chance that many parts will fit the older bikes.  As the original REs would have had Lucas alternators fitted it is highly likely that the later RS ones will be copies and therefore fit the Lucas rotors and studs spacing.
I for one will investigate the next time I need and alternator.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Dave.

Recent Enfields, from at least 2004, use a 4 wire alternator with 1 pair charging the battery through a conventional regulator and the other pair powering the headlight with a regulated AC circuit. I don't think that these would be a straight swap for a 3 wire Lucas alternator although it could be done.

Yes it will fit,I've fitted one on a previous C15 and it did charge.
I thought the alternator on my C15 was faulty so ordered one but still awaiting delivery.
I have since fitted digital readout connected to battery and can see the voltage increasing between 6-8v so not sure if I need to replace.

Well, I've ordered a 3-wire Enfield alternator from India.  SO, now I have a month of looking at the bike, as a sort of ornament in my cabin, before it, hopefully arrives and I can get on with the job once more.
