Title: C15 kickstart lever - rechrome or paint?
Post by: Tigerfeet on 14 Oct, 2025, 09:57
The original kickstart arm has rusty flaking chrome - so I am considering my options.  New arms are not available. So it is how to refinish the old one. I'm sure chroming will cost an arm and leg. So I'm wondering if silver paint or powder coating would produce an acceptable result?  Either way there would be the issue of how to get the remains of the old chrome off - I guess grit blasting is going to be the only way?  I'm sure my angle grinder would shift chrome - but I'm looking for something that leaves the arm intact!

can you get a local chrome plate person to reverse the process and take it OFF
then do what you wish with a bare steel lever

Hi,

There is a 'chrome' finish powder coating that looks very good. A bit like stainless.

Dave.

Give it a hard wire brushing then wire wool and then wipe over with oil. It will look OK for now and won't catch your clothes.

I use Simoniz silver wheel paint for things like this if I'm not after a concours finish. Chrome plating is getting really expensive.
