Old metalastics out ones out and new ones due in the post so I'm just thinking about how to fit them.
I have a long M16 stud that fits through with a selection of washers with two 1/6" thick that sit over the inner sleeve. My plan is to pull the bushes in until the outers are flush with the swing arm. At this point I'm assuming the inners will be touching. I'm sure I've seen a measurement for the overall length across the inner bushes but now I need it I can't find it.
Any tips/suggestions welcome.
Just do what you are planning
I recently did this and had to polish the Matt finish off the bushes. Measure the length of the outers and the depth of the inner recess to confirm but the bushes can only go in 'so far' as they seat on the recess lip. I would make sure your washers have big enough hole to only push the outer sleeve, not the inner sleeve as you could damage the rubber.
Yes, delay as I decided to get the swing arm powder coated while its off. I got a hone and cleaned out the arm and smoothed the bore a bit, looks like the fit is tight but not impossible.
Make sure you have some decent replacements as some new ones don't line up when you push them together.
The ones on my Lightning are the original ones. Unless they cause an issue they are still good. 60's rubber is a lot better than the rubbish that's being used now.
You'll be best using a press to fit the new bushes. A big threaded rod and some suitable spacers and nuts will work. But will be a lot more effort than just pressing them in.
This job is not going to plan. :( . Got the swinging arm in and found a fualt with it. Got one off a spare frame, battle the bushes out, just waiting for it to come back from powder coating. So I will have done the whole damn job twice >:(
