Title: C15 high gear sleeve
Post by: rhyatt on 05 Oct, 2025, 14:16
1960 C15 high gear replacement into its bearing.
I'm just beginning to replace the high gear into it's bearing.
Do I need hot air gun on the bearing and freezer for the sleeve gear ? Or should they slide together easier than that please ?
Thank you
The bsa service sheets seem to indicate removing the bearing and sleeve gear both together

I think I had one component in a low oven, and the other in the freezer - and it was still a tight fit.

Thank you.
I've discovered that you assemble the 2 parts outside the engine.
As you say oven and freezer.
And then heat the gearbox casing and drop the assemble unit into the bearing housing

Heating the whole case in the oven works well.  The problem with freezing is that it has to go in in once shot, if it sticks the temperatures equalise in seconds so its a lot of faff that may not work.
