Title: A65 Outer Timing Cover - Weird bolt?
Post by: brewsy on 05 Oct, 2025, 13:47
Hi All,
Bit the bullet to take off the timing side covers to change the (square) washer on the Speedo drive as it was leaking.
Wondering now if I should have left it leaking  ::)

Anyway, it's now off but the bottom outside timing cover is somewhat strange and I cannot find the equivalent bolt in the newly purchased Allen head bolt kit from Feked.

Has anyone seen this before?
I have looked in the parts manual but can't seem to locate it so have no clue.

Can anyone shed some light please?

Will have to post pictures later as from my phone they are too big and don't know how to resize.

Aha,
Found what I 'think' are the outer cover screws

If that's the case then somebody has made a BIG effort to stop leaks in that spot.
Spoiled by the fact that the thread has gone and I've got to install a helicoil repair kit.
So I think I'll be going back to standard fastening

Does that sound about right?

Yes yet another attempt to avoid the inevitable! I too have come across similar bodge's with the use of ptft tape to hold the screw! Strangely it was in the exact same place! Good luck with the repair.
