Hi all,
my C15 oil pump/distributor drive spindle bush is an incredibly tight fit in its "tube" in the timing crankcase.
I realise that it has to be snug but has anyone else had the same issue.
there is no perceptible damage/scoring in the tube and the bush itself is clear of damage also.
Thank you
Hi
Is the grub screw still in place?
I had to drill mine out and the drill and re-tap for a new (metric!) screw.
Sorry , forgot to say , yes grubscrew out and all clear .
No apparent reason for tightness other than super close tolerance
Whilst offering everything up, I realised that this bush's "waist" is to allow the inner gearbox cover screw to get past it , the grub screw is just there to keep the bush in its correct place when the screw is out.
Is the bush pushed down fully in the hole?
It slips into the upper part nicely and as it goes deeper , towards it's correct position (which allows the inner screw to go past the bush waist), it gets snugger and snugger.
It goes down to its correct position but with a bit of tapping .
I use a long box spanner on the end of the bush to drive it squarely.
The spindle itself is already in its place driving the oil pump and when it is all home and grub screw nipped on the bush and cover screw past the bush waist , I can rotate the spindle nicely.
I did t know if it needed tapping or should slide down smoothly and then secured in place
I think some taping is normal, the grub screw then holds it in place.
Regards.
Cheers
As stu said, some tapping is normal. I didn't realise this when I'd previously rebuilt my c15. As a result, the end of he spindle hadn't engaged with the pump and I wasn't getting oil returning. I think it was feeding into the engine at low revs but disengaging and not pumping as it should. It sounds like yours is OK though.
thank you
