i bought this weekend a 1961 B40 SS90(Registered Oct 62). bought with out starting it as the 6v battery was dead and i had no way of charging it or buying a new one.
so bought it on faith as it had good compression according to my mate who has a velocette venom
anyway he had 6v charger at home which i used overnight and after a lot of trial and error managed to start the thing on my own (never had to kick start a bike before). this is definitely going to be a learning experience. no word of a lie i'm scared of the thing. started it 4 times but haven't yet had a ride as the clutch cable broke. new one on order. any advice on starting it without damaging myself gratefully appreciated.
thing is it sounded great and there was no exhaust smoke
the bike has been repainted turquoise and it looks ok from a distance but for £1600 i think i've got a bargain. i might change my mind when i get to ride it!!!
Looks clean enough. Did he run out of blue paint?
Treat it to a K/S rubber and save your foot.
Will do thanks.
Got used to starting it. Did my first run on Sunday. 50 mile round trip to Southport
Apart from won't tick over due to a missing throttle stop screw it ran wonderfully.
Spending a small fortune doing little bits like mirrors and tank badges clutch cable.
