Another day another trouble, finally got the crankshaft endfloat correct and now what I thought to be a good bush has play in it.
Question, is there a tool to be able to press out both bush pieces in one go?, this is the later 2 piece bush fitted on my 1970 engine, I know the case has to be heated both removing and refitting but I was hoping someone might know of where I can get a ready made tool please.
Thank you.
Hook.
All original bushes were 2-piece. The early ones with the ball bearing on the drive side didn't have a thrust washer so the thickness of the top hat part of the bush was greater. Roller bearing cranks have a thrust washer.
Doing this kind of work should be left to a professional. It's not as simple as just dropping a new bearing in. The crank will also most likely want grinding.
A 1 piece bush will give you the chance to have the crank ground back to round (which might only be a couple of thou) then the bush can be milled to the correct size.
