Title: Bottom right frame rail
Post by: Janacek on 14 Jul, 2025, 15:32
While trying to get my gearbox inner cover off, I noticed that the bottom right frame rail looked as though it has been squashed in a vice.It clears the bottom of the engine, but surely BSA didn't design it like this,  did they?

Designed to clear the oil pump bulge in the pre  unit single. Before bending and welding in place a reinforcing liner was inserted into the tube. You can see it in the below photo from the frame blue print.

Thanks for the replies fellas.I was starting to think I have bought a (another)lemon.
Still can't get the inner gearbox cover off.Something is jamming it on.
Thought I would take the gearbox off to see if I could get the cover off on the bench, but looking at what is involved in the Haynes manual,my heart sank into my boots!

The first BB32A in '53 had a fabricated bend.
Presume you are talking about s/a type gearbox?  Grandmother and eggs point but you have removed the single screw that holds the inner cover on (often hidden by gasket residue?
Getting the gearbox out is a faff, mainly as the clutch needs stripping down too.
