I just replace my rotor (flat on both sides) with a new rotor. The new one is recessed on the side with the LUCAS imprint. A shop manual I have says the new rotor should be install with LUCAS, and therefore the recess, to the outside. If I do this, it doesn't go on far enough for the key to be exposed to hold the lock washer in place. If I turn it around it seems like the backside of the rotor would be rubbing against the drive chain.
Hi,
The tab on the washer locates in the key slot in the rotor. As the rotor is keyed and tightened on to the shaft the washer is held in place by the nut with part of the protruding washer turned up against a flat on the nut.
Dave.
There is no tab on the washer, only a slot, as though it is supposed to fit over the key. My problem seems to be that no matter what side of the rotor goes on first, the key is not exposed.
Hi,
The washer does not locate on the key. What looks like a like a slot in the washer is poorly formed tab.
Looking at what is being sold on line, they are all like this. I recently fitted one on a C15 but managed to make a bit more of a tab.
This image is more like it. SJ Engineering I think is the vendor.
Dave.
Do be careful of the ID.
Some aftermarket tabs won't go right onto the shaft fully
Hi,
Put a bit of thread lock on as well. Confucius said 'better belt and braces than tipping over fallen trousers'.
Dave.
Dear C15S,
Your locktab has been very badly made, possibly it arrived in the UK on a ship?
It should have a tab on it, and yours doesn't.
It fits as Mr. Brady says.
You can find what you are looking for on ebay, where you will clearly see a tab.
Got it. All is now well. My real problem, it seems, was the nut. Mine has a shoulder on the backside to accommodate the thicker, larger diameter, rotor I took off. I can either just machine it off with my lathe or get the correct one for this rotor/stator combo. Thanks to everyone for their help.
