I was only getting less than 2 volts out of my C15S stator, part# 47173A. The magnets on the rotor are still very, very strong so I ordered and received a brand new stator, part# 47177. This would seem to be a perfect 4 wire replacement, but by just a little bit it won't fit over the rotor. The new stator is about .05 - .06 undersize.
I could turn down my current rotor on my lathe, or try to find a new one that correctly fits my new stator. In either case I need to get old rotor off. Any secret to getting the current rotor off? I have tried a couple of things, but the nut won't budge. Tab on lock washer is already broken off.
as far as the nut is concerned, id suggest in gear and foot brake on to lock the transmission and then undo the nut (ordinary RH thread)'
take care with new locktabs , some don't fit correctly
removal should be just slide off the crank or failing that 2 jaw puller
I think the 47173A stator is part of an RM19 alternator which takes a 74mm diameter rotor, which has flat faces.
I think the 47177 stator is part of an RM13 alternator which takes a 70mm diameter rotor which has a recessed front face.
The rotors do not interchange.
Thanks JulianS for the reply. That is clearly my problem. I will try to find the correct rotor.
at this point on my C15 - I bit the bullet and went 12v with a Lucas/Wassel 2 wire stator wired in to a reg/rec and good charge
