I am rebuilding an early A65 engine and today i removed al the old paint on the barrel for repainting it. On the flange I discovered the letters L stamped on. Looks like factory stamps?
What does it mean? Low compression ?
Or did a former owner this when he made some liners in the barrel?
Has anyone seen this before?
There are 2 letters L in front of each cilinder .
Gup
Barrels and pistons were stamped L M H
low medium or high
Relative to the actual bore size within thousands of an inch. The bores were measured with a solex gauge and stamped, relative barrels were matched with pistons. This improved QC and reduced the amount of barrels that failed QC
GOOGLE. BSA factory videos, they made a video (broken up into several parts on you tube) about the bsa open day event (when it was ran by the factory) and about different engineers jobs within the factory as they follow the build process of a pre unit A10. - worth every minute of watching
Thanks Allan, this explains it. I was wondering why.
