Title: 1966 175
Post by: KiwiMike on 02 Jun, 2025, 13:36
Hi,
Ive just bought a 1966 175 Bantam which is missing some of the wiring and ignition,
My Bantam only has 1 hole in headlight cowling and wiring looms I see for sale are for models with 2 holes in headlight cowling.
Are these looms suitable and can i connect with just 1 switch leaving the other plug unused? Should i try and get a cowling suitable for 2 switches?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have ordered some workshop manuals but still awaiting arrival.
Thanks Mike

Hi Mike

The one and two switch D7s were quite different electrically.
The single switch models did not have a battery and used a 'magneto' type coil set in the generator together with direct lighting.
A twin switch loom won't work with only one switch fitted.
You'll need to decide how you want to set things up.

Ok, Thanks for that. I think you have given me the solution. My bike has an external coil and battery so i guess someone has thrown it together with the wrong cowling. I'll order the 2 switch loom  and look for a 2 switch cowling and go from there.
