Title: Hornet ign.
Post by: tdc on 16 May, 2025, 17:13
New to me 67 Hornet runs ok but large kick back on start up .Am I right in thinking that I can retard the points plate a tad without having to re time the whole thing . also would this be clockwise rotation of the plate .Thanks in advance . no pun intended. R.

Forther, on closer inspection I think that as the engine revs fine but will not idle as it should, that it could be a problem with the advance and retard unit stuck at full advance? we shall see .

Hi tdc, just seen your post regarding hornet ignition i too have a 67 east coast model re built to original spec with et ignition. You didn't mention if you retained this set up or not. I had trouble with the 4ca points back plate not been able to time each set of points individually so i upgraded to the 6ca system with great results! A relatively cheap and worthwhile mod. Theres also a great article from JRC engineering under their tech file. On google. Good luck.
Dave.

Yeah the bike does have the original points set up and kicks back hard on start up and will not idle, but as the advance/retard unit is 5.o and has no scribe line on the cam,or any timing marks on the rotor, the timing needs to be spot on to function as it should .
