Title: Lucas K2F Magneto removal
Post by: Tigerfeet on 27 Apr, 2025, 12:58
Hi

I need to remove a Lucas K2F magneto from a bike. The magneto is fitted with the automatic advance/retard assembly on the big fibre timing gear. I have got conflicting information as to whether the securing bolt is normal right hand thread or left hand thread. Can anyone confirm?

It is right hand thread.

Hi,

I believe that after undoing the righthand thread keep turning and it will engage another thread to act as a puller.

Dave.

As above, right hand thread. 5/16ww from memory.

get one of these when you come to re-time it: https://www.themagnetoguys.co.uk/magneto-static-timing-light

Worth every penny, spent ages when I was younger helping my father time his magneto, did mine the other day and it was a piece of cake. DTI down the plug hole, timed to 7.5mm down, tightened it up and sorted. Easy.

Always been interested in those things, but I don't suppose at £39 I'd get my money back through use.
I use a 1 thou feeler gauge That I have spare. When the gauge descends I know the points are just opening.
