Title: Rear brake spindle
Post by: Greenfield on 14 Apr, 2025, 12:43
Any suggestions on finding a M20/21 rear brake spindle 66-7035? I think it was also used on some early B group models.

No replies so have added a pic to aid recognition. I suspect that if there are any around they'll be pretty knackered.

Hi!

I think the correct part number is 66-7029

Try PES:  https://pesltd.uk/?product=66-7029

Best Regards,

Apologies - I see the visual differences.  I assumed all M20's and M21's had the same part.  What year is the bike?

Thanks Glenn
According to the parts books, this particular spindle was fitted to a number of Bs plus M20 and 21 in 1939, then B31 and 33 in 1947 and 48. After that the Bs had 66-7029 which is currently available.

It wouldn't take a lot to make one.

Agreed, but no longer have access to a lathe nor do I have the two dies needed. The main problem is that a previous owner has knackered the thread on the end that goes into the frame. Goodness knows how he managed to do that. Probably cross threaded it by trying to screw it in with the spring already under tension. I've bodged it for the mo by applying epoxy to the thread and just screwing it in finger tight. Its firm and everything works, but I hate it when a jobs not properly done.

I'm about to make another batch of 66-7029, so making a variant wouldn't be too much trouble.
