Title: Re-torque the head
Post by: peasy on 12 Apr, 2025, 21:51
Hi all,

Tomorrow I'll be re-torquing the head on my '72 OIF lightning. I've now done 600 miles ish since the rebuild (rebuild done before my ownership). Have read some older posts about doing it, any other tips anyone has at all to share?

Thanks
Lewis.

Hi,

I use a torque wrench and make sure that the setting is as per the manual. Check them in the same sequence as illustrated in the manual. The click of the wrench will tell you if they are still tight enough or you may need a slight tweak to get the click.  Do not be tempted to go beyond the click.

Dave.

Thanks Dave, all procedures followed and the whole job went well.
Marked each nut on the outers so could measure if and how much each one went tighter if at all and they all went tighter about 1/8".

Hi,

A good result.  No need to do that job for a while. Have you changed the oil?

Dave.
