What am I missing?
It tickled OK last year. Tank been empty over winter. Added choke slide, which ended up needing the carb off( as didn't want to raid tank off again). Then didn't tickle.
Since then have checked the fue tap is working OK and have taken carb apart and inspected for dirt/ bitsa cork and blown through.
Same gasket on the bowl. Not changed float height. Refusing to tickle.
What is left???
Can the needle just get suck? Can't think what else might be happening ? ?
Yes, needle can get stuck, sounds like yours is sticking (or if it is a plastic float can have leaked).
I would suggest a Viton tipped (lightweight) alloy needle valve and a stay up float when you put it back together.
I am led to believe these are both E5 and E10 compatible and have these in my DBD and BB bikes (1036 and 930 concentrics respectively). These newer floats are properly adjustable for float height - which is essential to have spot on for the DBD.
It's a new concentric with stay up float and the alloy viton tipped needle.
(I've got a 2nd similar needle in the old carb....so I can compare compare/swap)
Is there a fibre washer under the float valve housing?
Won't tickle meaning the button depresses but no fuel, or the button doesn't move? I ask because the button my Norton sticks in the up position if you let the spring return it too quickly. It can take a bit of a tap to get it moving if it has been sat a while like that. I haven't investigated the reason, I just try not to let it return too harshly.
Hi,
Is it worth checking that the fuel flows with the float needle removed ie float bowl removed?
If this is ok and the needle is not damaged then as neil1964 suggests it could be upon refitting the float bowl.
Just make sure that the pin for the float is sitting properly in its groove and that everything moves freely before assembly.
Present the bowl squarely to the carb body and hold it in place whilst fitting the screws.
Dave.
Ta for comments. Tuesday before I can look at it. Will report back.

Reports?
I thought it was my Missis' job to nag....when I'm slacking ......as usual!!
(Been shed repairing....whilst listening to all the bikes whizz passed my hedge)
So just removed screw cap at base of carb. No fuel came out. Opened fuel tap.....& no fuel came out.
Removed fuel pipe from carb. When I open tap fuel flowed freely.
So most likely needle has glued itself in place. Less likely plastic filter in carb completely blocked....but it was nice and clean when I checked just before I started the thread.
(Need to make progress on other stuff. But should be running in time for the rain)
Bother.
Have gone from not tickling to fuel fills and runs out through air filter continuously!!
( float jammed or needle unseated I guess)
So it'll be off again tomorrow!!
just for the record:
The carb 'weeing' fuel out through the air filter was seemingly caused by me stupidly extending the tickler arm by wiggling it out a bit ( to ensure it pressed the float) ......before I had checked if cleaning the needle and valve seat would solve the fuel not getting to the bowl problem.
Stupid.. as it tickled ok before being left over winter dry. Presumably the longer arm kept the float depressed or somehow dislodged it. Once I wiggled the arm back in a bit it seems to now work correctly
This comment is on the same theme, although my carbs do tickle.
I have a pair of wassell concentrics 30mm, very similar to amal mk1 concentric 900 premiers on a bsa a65 lightning. They have a changeable pilot jet.
I have just stripped them down and noticed the bottom of the tickler pin is digging into the floats. I can see that the tickers will eventually hole the floats. This may be some of these contributors' problems with petrol pouring out, ie float not floating.
I have looked on FEKED (classic bike parts) website at their amal tickler pin conversion kit. The actual part of the ticker pin which touches the float is the same, so it isn't a wassell vs amal problem.
Any thoughts?
Yeah, stay clear of Wassel and Feked, as both are purveyors of rubbish and (particularly Feked) don't honour their customer after-sales and returns obligations.
Agreeed, I find Draganfly much better (when they have the parts in stock....)
B31/32/33/34 sump gaskets....on back order. Not as if they're obscure or rarely used parts. :'(
