Title: Super Rocket Choke
Post by: redmelons on 21 Mar, 2025, 11:32
My 1960 Super Rocket has an Amal Concentric carburretor and has never (since I got it) had a choke. Would a choke improve the currently difficult cold starting, or should the tickler be enough?

I always have chokes on my bikes, and they need them too. Not a hope of starting either the ST or Goldie without choke, and I've have a cardiac arrest before the Venom even coughed.
My some remove them is a mystery to me.

Funny I never use the choke on any of my bikes. I just flood the cards.

soon as I put choke on she fire up first kick, so yes get a choke it will be worth it.

Hi,

Is it a new Amal Premier?
For many years we ran and A10 and an A65 with Concentric and no choke.  A good tickle and staring was easy and usually first or second kick.  When replaced with Premiers starting was more difficult even with a good tickle. Problem solved by fitting the supplied chokes.
No idea why but the Premiers seem to need the choke even with the same jetting being used.

Dave.

Yes, the older concentric (without choke) has been replaced with an R300 Premier, also without choke. Looks like I'll have to get a choke, cable and lever for the bike. Thanks
