Title: Tank badge rubbers for larger (twin screw) badge - B44
Post by: AndrewB44 on 16 Mar, 2025, 10:51
Hey all,

I'm fitting new (OS) tank badges to my B44, but can't seem to find the right backing rubbers. Most of the ones seem to be for the smaller (single screw) type tank badge, but mine has two. Don't suppose anyone knows a supplier or even the part number? The badges I'm fitting are original stamped metal ones

AFAIK they didn't have backing rubbers. I didn't fit any to my B44 with steel tank and I've not experienced any issues. HTH

Lay the badge over an old inner tube maybe ??

You could put a thick bead of clear silicone on the underside of the badges and let it cure before fitting them.

The single screw plastic badges have rubbers behind them to help prevent them cracking (which they sometimes still do if the screw is over-tightened) if the surface of the tank behind them isn't perfectly flat. Being much stronger, the metal badges don't need backing rubbers as there is no chance of them breaking from screw pressure alone.
