Hi all
Has anyone experienced problems removing the drain plug from the oil tank, on a B31 or similar , mine is so tight i am worried i might break the tank in trying to undo it.
If you have had the same problem did you manage to overcome it, and how?
Many thanks
Mark
Hi , no problems on my b33 , but are you sure it's the correct thread bung, maybe it's not original , you could order a new oem bung then measure the thread and check pitch ,or if your lucky someone will chime in and tell you the thread , then get hold of a tap and run it through , give it a good clean out and fit a new fibre washer , and you'll be right after that . Cheers

Not sure of anything, bike is new to me , with no history, i do need to get the plug out first though.
Hi,
The thread on this plug/filter is quite fine so can be done up quite tightly. Is there evidence of a fibre washer or has this been left out? If not then a sealant may have been used.
Do you have a good fit socket/spanner? Essential as the shallowness of the plug makes it hard to get a good fit.
Try sustained pressure whilst supporting the spanner/socket in place to prevent it coming off. I can understand a reluctance to use too much force but the tanks are quite strong.
You could even try removing the fibre washer, if there is one, with a sharp blade. This could relieve the resistance to being undone.
Dave.
Give the drain plug a couple of taps with a copper mallet first. If all else fails then take Stillsons to the plug and order a new one.
Hi,
If you end up using Stillsons be careful of the paint. I know from experience that Stillsons can have quite sharp edges and as the plug is a bit recessed it is quite easy to catch the paint. Perhaps put some tape on the tank to protect it.
Dave.
Success!!
A combo of Daves sustained pressure and V500s tap with a mallet, i was lucky enough to find a socket large enough thankfully, Stillsons can stay in the toolbox for another day.
No washer fitted, no sealant either, just silly tight.
Anyhow not happy with the sludge in the tank so thats coming off for a wash out, and a new plug/filter on order too.I allready have two washers in stock.
I am not responsible for this ghastly repair to the filter by the way.
Many thanks to all, every bit of info helps when you know nothing.

That Brass mesh is available in many 'deniers', and when new is really easy to solder. I made an air-filter for a yamaha ty175 with some of the fine mesh.
I take it the plug is the connection for the oil feed pipe to the engine. The nut part looks Ok but the mesh has suffered, and was most likely soldered when contaminated with oil.
