Post by: chrisf-1 on 01 Mar, 2025, 11:30
Hi again everyone my first Goldie which I am slowly getting acquainted with I am renewing the rear wheel spindle and the bearing spindle on the brake drum, does the old spindle just knock through the drum or is major surgery required to get what I suppose you would call a stub axle out of the drum I am loathe to start hitting things when I do not know if it is being held so I would appreciate an idiots guide to removal and replacement of the stub axle many thanks Chris414615271_3644807875767626_4415843111325714633_n.jpg

Put bike on centre stand. Undo the spindle on the right side. Pull out the spindle and take out the spacer between the swinging arm and the wheel then pull the wheel towards you. The whee l will come off it's splinds then you can remove the wheel.

Hi,

The short section of spindle through the brake drum just knocks out of the bearing. A good hit with a rubber mallet may do it otherwise leave the nut on to hit with a heavier hammer. When refitting with a new bearing support the inner race as you knock the short spindle back in to avoid possible damage to the bearing.

Dave.
